Provides an introduction to the methods of examining and understanding the complexity, range, and diversity of poetry, drama, fiction, and nonfiction writing by and/or about women
Pre-Requisites Both of these groups:
1.One of these two: EAP 0099, ENG 0099 (Minimum grade: 1.67 GPA Equivalent)
And
2. Any one of these three: READ 0093, READ 0094, READ 0099

A broad understanding of the history of and developments in feminist literary theory
Genders and sexualities??Women?s political roles???Women?s roles in literary canons???Criteria for criticism, writing about literature, and literaryvocabulary?
Learning Outcomes
Utilize writing skills and literary analysis of texts by and about women writers in order to understand the development of and the changing meanings of group identities for women and women writers.
Demonstrate awareness in the literary texts of the individual and institutional dynamics of unequal power relations between groups in contemporary society
Apply the techniques and conventions of critical writing about literature to demonstrate an understanding their own attitudes, behaviors, concepts and beliefs regarding diversity, racism, sexism, and bigotry as expressed or inscribed literature byand/or about women.
Describe and discuss the ways that the literary texts by women writers illustrate the experiences and contributions (political, social, economic, cultural) of the many groups that shape societies and cultures, in particular tose groups that have suffered discrimination and exclusion.
