ENG 2237 - The Short Story
3 Credits Examines the history and diversity of the short story form. Prerequisites: Placement into ENG 1108 or completion of both ENG 0099 and READ 0093/0094 with a grade of C or higher.
Pre-Requisites Both of these groups:
1.One of these two: EAP 0099, ENG 0099 (Minimum grade: 1.67 GPA Equivalent)
And
2. Any one of these three: READ 0093, READ 0094, READ 0099
OR
ENG 1108
Major Content Areas History and development of the short story: illustrative stories.Elements of fiction: character, setting, point of view, symbolism.Analysis of broad range of short fiction.
Learning Outcomes Recognize the diverse characteristics of the short story form.Perform close analysis of literature (short fiction) at an introductory level.Demonstrate knowledge of major critical frameworks at an introductory level.Employ major critical frameworks to analyze literature (short fiction) at an introductory level.Describe how concerns in short fiction reflect the changes, patterns, and/or values of a given culture.Incorporate and document secondary sources at an introductory level.
