EMS 1110 - EMS Operations



2 Credits
Provides advanced instruction and experience with skills needed to work in the EMS field. Students lead a team of pre-hospital caregivers in realistic scenario simulations: life-like role-plays in which students must work through all phases of an ambulance call. These simulations are complex care situations that require the development of critical thinking and decision-making skills.

Pre-Requisites EMS 1101  and Current CPR certification and valid driver’s license.

Co-Requisites ENG 0099 - Introduction to Academic Writing  (Minimum grade: 1.67 GPA Equivalent)

Learning Outcomes
Demonstrate good body mechanics when lifting and moving simulated patients.

Demonstrate dispatch procedures for simulated addresses and scenarios

Demonstrate competence in the use of all approved Regions Hospital BLS Protocols.

Accurately document all aspects of a basic ambulance run.

Effectively manage all aspects of a simulated basic life support ambulance run.

Lookup and accurately identify coordinates ofa given location within the Metro region using either a King or Hudson Map book.

Apply appropriate protocol during a simulated basic life support ambulance run.

Demonstrate proper use of the mobile radioand base station.
