The Associate of Arts (A A ) degree is designed for students who want to complete the first two years of their bachelor’s degree and finish their general education requirements Students build skills and knowledge in a variety of subject areas while completing the 40-credit Minnesota Transfer Curriculum (MnTC) In the process, students may explore possible majors and take essential pre-major courses They work with their Inver Hills counselor or advisers to develop an educational plan and prepare for Junior-level transfer.

General Education/Minnesota Transfer Curriculum (MnTC): 40 Credits

Some courses may be applied to more than one goal area, resulting in completion of the 10 goals with fewer than 40 credits. If this occurs, additional credits from the 10 goals listed must be taken to complete a minimum of 40 credits.

Health and Physical Education: 2 Credits


  • Health 1 Credits
  • Physical Education 1 Credits

Elective Courses: 18 Credits


Courses numbered 1000 and above from any department may be used to fulfill these electives. These electives may be freely chosen or selectively used for transfer requirements. Include essential pre-major classes to facilitate Junior level transfer.

Total Credits: 60

1 It may be possible to choose a course that also meets MnTC Goal 7, 8, 9, or 10. You are encouraged to take MnTC courses that complement majors of interest at the four-year level.

2 These credits may be taken as electives if Goal Areas 7, 8, 9, and 10 are completed as part of another course and you have earned 40 MnTC credits.

3 Electives may be 1000+ level courses from any discipline, including additional MnTC courses. Examples of non-MnTC courses that may be taken include the following disciplines: ACCT, BUS, CJS, CS, CRDV, EDU, EMS, ENGR, HLTH, HSER, ITC, PA, and PE.
