SPAN 2101 - Conversational Spanish I



3 Credits
Presents a variety of practical speaking situations intended for intermediate level students. The topics will include, daily activities, travel, some business situations, and some cultural issues.

Learning Outcomes
Use appropriate vocabulary, grammar, and structures at a beginning intermediate level

Discuss cultural differences and similarities

Demonstrate ability to read, understand, and discuss simple reading excerpts

Demonstrate ability to understand Spanish and use communication strategies to keep conversation flowing

Demonstrate the following skills orally: use social courtesies, ask questions, ask for help, apologize, express emotions, describe self and others, express likes and dislikes, narrate past events, give commands and make requests, function in shopping, restaurant, hotel, and travel situations, carry out a job interview, discuss future plans, and events, express opinions and disagree, discuss health and describe symptoms

Demonstrate an understanding of pertinent grammatical structures and vocabulary, and reading ability through class discussions, activities, homework assignments, and short quizzes

Demonstrate an understanding of cultural differences through classroom discussions based on readings and interviews with native speakers and personal experience

Demonstrate communicative ability (speaking and listening) through weekly oral exams, daily participation, and role-playing presentations
