MUSC 1110 - Music Fundamentals



3 Credits
Provides an overview of the essential elements of music needed to understand structure, gain historical perspective, write and compose music, and communicate clearly about/through this art form. This includes introductory music theory, history and performance practice, listening, and other related subject area concepts.

Basic music theory.

Music Notation.

Performance Techniques.

Historical context.

Listening and identification.

Formal Identification.

Learning Outcomes
Demonstrate the ability to read basic music notation.

Demonstrate written knowledge of rudimentary music theory concepts to include scale construction, intervals, accidentals, chord construction, and meter.

Demonstrate understanding of fundamental musical concepts through performance: voice or instrument (piano, recorder, guitar, or other instrument).

Develop an awareness for the historical context in which music (present and past) has been written.
