MUSC 1104 - Class Piano I



3 Credits
Provides a sequential study of music fundamentals, written music theory, historical context, and basic skills required to play the piano/keyboard. This course is designed for the beginning piano student.

Learning Outcomes
Develop performance and/or public speaking skills, and

Develop a basic vocabulary with which to describe musical concepts

Critically evaluate your own involvement in the performance process and articulately evaluate other performances.

Obtain an increased understanding of the acoustic piano and electric keyboard and how each works.

Develop basic musical skills, such as sight-reading, scale construction, basic and advanced musical notation, rhythm and pitch identification; concepts which engage the student in the creative process in preparation for performance

Obtain a basic understanding of the historical and cultural contexts surrounding the pieces performed

Learn ways in which to improvise in a given style
