ITC 2000 - PC Hardware and Software (A+)



3 Credits
Presents an in-depth exposure to computer hardware and operating systems. Students learn the functionality of hardware and software components as well as suggested best practices in maintenance and safety issues. Students learn how to assemble and configure a computer, install operating systems and software, and troubleshoot hardware and software problems. This course helps students prepare for CompTIA’s A+ certification exam, which covers the knowledge and skills essential for becoming a successful computer technician.

Pre-Requisites ENG 0099  and READ 0093 or READ 0094 with a grade of C or higher.

Demonstrate the ability to install, configure, secure, and troubleshoot a basic wired/wireless SOHO network given a scenario.

Compare and contrast wireless networking standards and protocols as well as wireless security protocols and authentication methods.

Explain common network configuration concepts including IP addressing, DNS, DHCP, subnet masks, gateway addresses, VPNs, and NAT.

Explain the basic cable types, features, and their purposes including the categories of: network cables, video cables, multipurpose cables, peripheral cables, mass storage cables, and adapters.

Select, describe features of, install, configure, and troubleshoot appropriate storage devices, motherboards, CPUs, RAM, and add-on cards for a given scenario.

Explain the purposes and uses of various PC peripheral types.

Select and configure appropriate components for a custom PC configuration for a given scenario.

Select, install, configure, and troubleshoot various print technologies given a scenario including SOHO multifunction devices, laser, inkjet, thermal, impact, virtual, and 3D printer.

Demonstrate the proper use of communication techniques and professionalism for given scenarios.
