Covers the fundamentals of the Linux operating system, command line interface, and essential open source software concepts. This course is designed for students new to Linux and takes a hands-on approach to exploring the day-to-day operation of a command line Linux system and is aligned to the LPIC Linux Essentials industry certification.

Learning Outcomes
Demonstrate the querying of vital network configuration settings including IP address, routing, DNS name resolution, and connectivity testing. Create users and groups on a Linux system and explain their use. Manage file permissions and ownership on a Linux system. Explain and demonstrate the use of quoting on the command line. Demonstrate and explain the use of command line pipes, redirection, and basic regular expressions in Linux. Describe the evolution of Linux and popular uses/distributions of Linux.Describe major open source applications and their uses. Explain the philosophy and nature of open source licensing. Demonstrate basic use of the Linux command line interface including getting help with the man command, navigating directories, listing directory contents, creating/moving/deleting/archiving files, text file data searching/extracting, and basic BASH scripting. Show where various types of information are stored in a Linux system including processes, log files, kernel ring buffer, and configuration settings.
