ENG 2223 - British Literature: Romanticism to the Present

Surveys British literature from the Romantic period to the present in a global context.

Pre-Requisites Both of these groups:

1.One of these two: EAP 0099, ENG 0099  (Minimum grade: 1.67 GPA Equivalent)

And

2. Any one of these three: READ 0093, READ 0094, READ 0099  

OR

ENG 1108  

Major Content Areas
Major authors and literary periods: Romanticism, Victorianism, Modernism, Postcolonialism

Literary forms, including lyric, narrative, and epic poetry, drama, and the novel

Dominant themes, modes, images, and figures

Historical Context: Colonialism and Postcolonialism

Literary analysis will infuse all of the above items

Learning Outcomes
Demonstrate knowledge of canonical works of British literature and their themes in a global context that considers the political, economic, and cultural elements which influence relations between states and societies.

Demonstrate knowledge of major genres, styles, periods, and historical developments in British literature.

Demonstrate knowledge of cultural, social, religious, and linguistic differences between cultures and analyze specific international problems, illustrating the cultural, economic, and political differences that affect their solution.

Use literary analysis to understand the role of a world citizen and the responsibility world citizens share for their common global future.
