EMS 2589 - Paramedic Capstone Field Internship



3 Credits
Provides competency-based clinical experiences in emergency medical services field response units. Students perform advanced life support skills and patient assessments, formulate differential diagnoses, and direct patient care teams. Students are to function as advanced life support team leader and are under the supervision of a preceptor or instructor.

Pre-Requisites EMS 2588 

Major Content Areas
Performance of skills and assessment as an entry level paramedic under the state scope of practice for paramedics.

Field Clinical Internship.

Learning Outcomes
Integrate and synthesize the multiple determinants of health and clinical care.

Effectively communicate in a manner that is culturally sensitive and intended to improve the patient outcome.

Safely and effectively perform paramedic psychomotor skills within the National EMS Scope of Practice Model and state scope of practice at this level.

Perform a comprehensive history and physical examination to identify factors affecting the health and health needs of a patient as the EMS Team Leader.

Formulate a field impression based on an analysis of comprehensive assessment findings, anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, and epidemiology.

Relate assessment findings to underlying pathological and physiological changes in the patient’s condition.
