EMS 2580 - Synthesis of Advanced Life Support

Provides a summary review and evaluation of all core content in EMS courses. This course helps students apply theoretical and practical knowledge gained throughout the EMS program toward its completion and successful paramedic state and national certification.

Major Content Areas
Comprehensive review of major components of the paramedic program.
Discussion of real life patient care experiences.
Unit exams covering: Respiratory situations, cardiac emergencies, medical emergencies, pediatric (peds) & obstetrical/gynecological (OB/GYN) emergencies, EMS operations, and trauma.
Learning Outcomes
Demonstrate knowledge of current emergency medical treatments and diseases through a series of written examinations.
Demonstrate an understanding of advanced life support (ALS) through a capstone written examination.
Appreciate diverse approaches to medicine and healing arts.
Advocate for compassionate, holistic, and culturally appropriate emergency medical care.
Analyze complex medical and traumatic emergencies.
Develop and defend a prioritized list of treatment approaches for various emergency scenarios.
Organize key patient symptoms, physical findings, disease pathologies and advanced life support treatments into rational treatment plans.
Effectively communicate with and facilitate a group of peers working on a variety of learning activities.
