Information will include review of standard cardiac protocols, reading the 12- and 15-lead electrocardiogram (EKG); integrate pharmacologic intervention as prescribed by the American Heart Association advanced cardiac life support (ACLS) algorithms.
Major Content Areas Cardiac patient assessment.Anatomical review of the heart.Heart disease, including angina, acute myocardial infarction (AMI), and congestive heart failure (CHF).Interpretation of 12 and 15-lead electrocardiograms (EKG).Advanced cardiovascular life support (ACLS) algorithms.Use of the cardiac monitor for defibrillation, cardioversion, and transcutaneous pacing.Post-arrest stabilization.
Learning Outcomes Relate the steps in cardiovascular assessment.Discuss coronary artery disease.Distinguish between angina and acute myocardial infarction.Describe and differentiate between left and right heart failure.Evaluate and interpret the 12- and 15-lead electrocardiogram (EKG).Identify and treat life-threatening arrhythmias.Recite the advanced cardiovascular life support (ACLS) algorithms as prescribed by the American Heart Association.Discuss post-resuscitation management of the cardiac patient.
