ART 2251 - Introduction to Painting



3 Credits
Introduces basics of acrylic and/or water soluble oil painting and basic color theory. Emphasis is on painting from observation. A variety of traditional and contemporary painting approaches are assigned including an opportunity for personal exploration. The studio course involves active hands-on participation by the student. Gallery and museums visits may be included in this course. Lab Fee

Learning Outcomes
Demonstrate basic visual elements of art and principles of design that are common to all works of art.

Demonstrate the use of the language of painting to make an effective personal and expressive statement.

Apply the fundamental methods and techniques of painting, using color, form, and space.

Create original paintings that explore a variety of formal and conceptual problems, demonstrate a visual vocabulary, and the ability to make effective aesthetic judgments.

Demonstrate an increased appreciation of the vital role and value the fine arts and humanities have on the development of culture.

Explain and evaluate the effectiveness of personal artwork and the work of others through critique.
