ART 2201 - Ceramics II
3 Credits Explores advanced studies in ceramics. Additional technical and aesthetic exploration and experimentation including functional and sculptural forms, slips, under glazes, clay bodies, Raku, wood, and salt kiln firings. Gallery and museum visits maybe included in this course. Lab fee. Course may be repeated for credit.

Learning Outcomes Enhance basic knowledge of glazing through experimentation with scales, colorants and altering existing glazes to create new glazes Participate in loading, unloading, firing Raku, High fire reduction, salt, wood kiln firings and critiques Develop competencies of techniques in hand building, wheel throwing and combinations of these methods Recognize the characteristics of hazardous wastes and its safe handling, storage, and disposal Develop an ability to use a variety of clay bodies including: low fire Raku clay glazes, high fire white stoneware, porcelain, stoneware with iron and achieving particular surfaces and firing results Utilize conceptual assignments creating unique clay endeavors, focused on creative forms and surfaces
