ENG 1111 - Research Writing
2 Credits Students will analyze primary and secondary sources and develop formal research writing in students’ academic and/or professional disciplines including EMS, Paralegal, and Criminal Justice.
Pre-Requisites ENG 1108 with grade of C or better.
Major Content Areas Critical reading of texts for specific disciplines.
Using and integrating sources (including paraphrase, summary, and response).
Research and rhetorical strategies.
Citation and documentation standards.
Learning Outcomes Explore issues in a specific academic or professional discipline in order to select relevant research topics.
Demonstrate proficiency in research and writing strategies.
Gather, evaluate, synthesize, and apply information from sources.
Construct a clear, goal-oriented thesis.
Use appropriate organization, language, and citation methods for a specific discipline.
Demonstrate discipline-specific knowledge of audience and rhetorical situations.
Create discipline-specific documents that employ effective techniques for specific writing situations.
Engage in guided revision and/or writing workshops.
